There are more than 270,000 on-road vehicles running on propane across the United States, including buses, taxis, delivery vehicles, and other fleet vehicles. Propane, also referred to as autogas, is a gaseous fuel that is heavier than air, but will still readily disperse within a maintenance facility. Precautions should be taken to eliminate ignition sources and ensure that proper ventilation exists inside maintenance facilities. Both NFPA 58 and IFC may apply to garages that service propane-fueled vehicles.
A few simple strategies can greatly reduce the cost and complexity of an alternative fuel upgrade.
